Founded in 1967, Afan Lido initially entered the Port Talbot and District league, serving the many people who attended the then newly-built leisure centre in the town.

Success in that league and the great ambition of its prime-mover, Phil Robinson, saw the club quickly move into and succeed in the national system, climbing the pyramid, winning the Welsh Intermediate Cup in 1987, being Premier Division Champions several times and entering the National Division in 1990.

The Lido were founder members of the League of Wales in 1992, and achieved strongly in the early days of the league, winning the League Cup for both of its first two seasons and also finishing runners-up in the league in 1995, entering the UEFA Cup as a result and only narrowly failing to win their tie.

Relegation to the Welsh League in 1996 was disappointing, though the club used it as a springboard to strengthen further, and when the club returned to the league two years later, they missed out on a second European qualification only on goal difference.

Currently in the Welsh League because of a relegation caused by a harsh points deduction, the club will surely again look towards its renowned youth academy and build again, hoping to return to the Welsh Premier at the earliest opportunity.
